The Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA), in partnership with the City of Fairhope, will dedicate a new 50-KW solar research project in the City of Fairhope on Wednesday, May 4th, at 10 a.m. at the new solar charging station in the parking lot of City Hall, 161 North Section Street.
“The City of Fairhope is excited to be a site for the new solar research project conducted by AMEA,” said Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan. “We are thankful for the partnership we have with AMEA and the leadership they provide in this project as well as the many others we undertake together.”
A similar solar charging station located at the City’s Parking Garage is also part of the research project.
In conjunction with the solar research initiative, AMEA has been exploring and researching best practices in community solar parks in partnership with AMEA’s Member cities, including the City of Fairhope. The AMEA Board of Directors approved a $1 million investment to construct one solar research project in each Member city for a total of 11 projects. In addition to Fairhope, AMEA has dedicated similar-sized solar research projects in Alexander City, Dothan, Foley, Luverne, Opelika, Sylacauga and Tuskegee.
AMEA, located in Montgomery, is the wholesale power provider for 11 public power utilities in Alabama, which serve some 350,000 customers in Alexander City, Dothan, Fairhope, Foley (Riviera Utilities), LaFayette, Lanett, Luverne, Opelika, Piedmont, Sylacauga and Tuskegee.
AMEA representatives as well as the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce and local dignitaries will be on hand for the May 4th dedication.
