Gulf Shores Fire Rescue Launches Free Smoke Detector Installation Program

0Comments

Gulf Shores Fire Rescue (GSFR) is participating in the “Get Alarmed Alabama!” smoke alarm initiative to ensure all homes throughout Gulf Shores are outfitted with smoke detectors. This program offers free smoke detectors and installations to qualifying City of Gulf Shores residents.

“Smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half,” said Gulf Shores Fire Chief, Mark Sealy. “Every day across this country, home fires threaten families – but working smoke alarms can be the difference between survival and tragedy. We want to be part of the solution to preventing fire deaths; that’s why we want to make sure everyone in our community has a working smoke alarm in their home.”

Through the Alabama Fire College, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue maintains a supply of smoke alarms which will be provided and installed by GSFR firefighters free of charge to qualifying residents. Participating in this program is easy. Residents simply visit www.gulfshoresal.gov/GetAlarmed and fill out the smoke alarm installation form. Once the form is submitted, a GSFR firefighter will contact the homeowner to schedule an installation date and time.

Please note there are qualifications that must be met to participate in this program. To find out if you qualify, please visit www.gulfshoresAL.gov/GetAlarmed. For additional questions, please email GetAlarmed@gulfshoresAL.gov or call 251-968-7422.

GSFR would also like to remind City of Gulf Shores residents of their free home safety surveys. Home safety surveys are designed to identify fire and life-safety hazards such as tripping, slipping, cooking, etc. Upon surveying your home, GSFR firefighters will provide written recommendations you can follow to reduce fire and life-safety hazards. This free service is by appointment only and can be requested online at www.gulfshoresal.gov/HomeSafetySurvey
