Members of the Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club on Thursday, March 16th presented Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon, on behalf of the city, with the club colors in the form of a framed jacket in appreciation of the City of Orange Beach’s support of police and first responders.
“Today we’re here to present our colors to the mayor and the City of Orange Beach to put on display in their City Hall,” said International Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club President John Boyan, of Rochester, New York, who was in town and joined the local Alabama Coastal Chapter for the presentation at Orange Beach City Hall. “We’re proud to be able to present that here and we certainly appreciate the welcoming reception that we received.”
Mayor Kennon accepted the City Hall gift with great appreciation.
“It’s an honor for me to do so,” Mayor Kennon said. “The City of Orange Beach backs the blue, 100 percent, and these guys are the epitome of what service to others is all about. They risk their lives everyday for us, and in any way we can show our appreciation for that, we want to do so.”
The Punishers LEMC was established in 1999 in New Jersey. The club has more than 300 chapters worldwide.
“We are in 19 countries,” Boyan said. “We are composed primarily of law enforcement – active and retired, military – active and retired, many first responders, and like-minded individuals as well. Our motto is ‘In Service to Others.’ So much of what we do on an individual chapter basis is raise money for various charities around the country. We do a lot of children’s groups, anti-bullying is a focus and, of course, supporting law enforcement and first responders.”
Locally, the Alabama Coastal Chapter supports families of children in need by providing groceries for weekends and school breaks at certain times of the year. The chapter is hosting the 2023 War Dog Charity Event on Saturday, March 18th at Top of the Bay on U.S. 98 in Daphne. The motorcycle event is a Poker Chip Run, with profits going toward bringing abandoned K9s home from overseas. Registration is open from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The cost is $20 per bike and $10 per passenger.
