South Baldwin Regional Medical Center broke ground today on construction to expand and modernize the hospital, enhance services and increase overall capacity to care for patients in Alabama’s fastest-growing city. The construction project is the largest ever undertaken at the hospital.

Honorary guests joining hospital CEO Margaret Roley included Foley mayor Ralph Hellmich, who lifted shovels marking the kick-off for the expansion and renovation.

“We want to make it easy for our community to get quality medical services close to home,” said Steve Love, chairman of the Board of Trustees.

“More types of procedures will be available locally and the facility will offer our patients an enhanced environment supporting their care and comfort,” said Lee Eslava, M.D., chief of staff at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.

The project will impact numerous services, with highlights including a new surgical department with a dedicated outpatient entrance, a larger intensive care unit, and new nursing stations. Renovations in the existing facility will complement the new addition and support a welcoming patient environment.

“This significant project underscores our commitment to bring quality care and advanced technology to those we serve,” said Margaret Roley, chief executive officer of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. “We are applying our resources to provide patients with convenient access for more services to support the growing population in our region. We are thankful for the ongoing support received thus far from South Baldwin County Health Care Authority, our Board of Trustees, city officials and our community.”

Construction on the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center’s campus is officially underway. The target date for opening the new space is early 2025.

MJ Harris is serving as the general contractor for this project and Gresham Smith is the architect.
