Fairhope Yacht Club hosted the Junior Commodore Ball on Saturday. Several St. Michael students were recognized in front of their peers for their accomplishments in 2022. Seniors and Co-Captains, Ava Cocke and Sullivan Stankoski were included in our celebration of seniors from each of the four high school teams FYC supports. Fisher Key was one of the 2 sailors awarded the most improved high school sailor of the 32 students from the four high schools in our area, (St. Michael, Fairhope High School, Bayshore Christian and Bayside Academy) Nate Hartwell was awarded the St. Michael team spirit award for his drive to promote sailing and the encouragement he gives his teammates. Graham Rose was awarded Newcomer of the Year Award. The Trophy for this award is called the “Boat Cohen Award,” and is named for the grandson of FYC Member Lou Wiles. This award is given to an outstanding new sailor in the youth program consisting of 68 sailors this year. In Graham’s first year sailing he not only learned enough to become a skipper in many races this fall but also purchased and restored his own personal Sunfish. In 2019, Senior Ava Cocke won this award as a freshman! Congratulations to all of our St. Michael sailors who worked together to earn many podium finishes in 2022.  We look forward to watching the program grow in the years to come.  Don’t forget that any SMCHS student, as well as 7th and 8th graders
