Laura Wilber

English teacher, 2022-23

St. Michael is pleased to announce it has hired Mrs. Laura Wilber as its full time English teacher for the 2022-23 school year. Wilber will also serve as manager of the cheerleading program, in charge of all scheduling and communications. She will teach freshman English at St. Michael,  and will also teach in the 11th grade collegiate studies program.

Mrs. Wilber comes to St. Michael with a B.A. from Rollins College and an M.A. in English from the University of New Orleans. She taught for five years at Ben Franklin High School in New Orleans, where she also coached varsity and JV soccer. Upon the birth of her first child, she left full time teaching, but worked and volunteered in a number of capacities, including six years as a soccer coach for the Daphne Rangers. Since 2019, she’s been the Head of Operations for the Rangers, in charge of all communications, scheduling and fund-raising.

“My first impression of Mrs. Wilber when I met her, ” says principal Faustin Weber, “was her professional demeanor and calm—It made sense to me that the Rangers put her in charge of handling issues within their program! I also liked her years of high school experience, and the fact she’s stayed active through coaching since. I think her maturity, her love for kids, and her passion for reading and writing will be a great blessing to our students.“

Wilber is excited to join the faculty:  “During the interview process this spring, I was so impressed by the warm environment, the innovative faculty, and the courteous students at St. Michael,” Wilber says.  “I am grateful to be invited into this enlightened community and excited to journey back into the high school English curriculum. I’m hoping this opportunity to challenge and influence others and to grow together as scholars and as people will be rewarding for all of us!”

Laura and her husband Shawn have been married for 18 years. They have four children—Caroline (16), Sam (13), Alex (11) and Andrew (7). They worship at Christ the King.
