Elsanor Elementary received a letter of Commendation after being recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education as a Science of Reading Spotlight School. Elsanor was one of eleven schools recognized in the state.
Science of Reading Spotlight Schools were chosen based upon the following criteria:
-Third grade progess in reading achievement beginning in 2019
-Fully trained faculty in the Science of Reading, including the principal
-Effective literacy instruction supported by the local reading specialist and school leadership
As a result, Elsanor Elementary School was featured at a session at MEGA (state educational conference). They will also be an instructional lab site where they will host other schools to provide professional learning opportunities, and they will provide model teaching, coaching and/or parent support through video vignettes to be used across the state of Alabama.
