Emergency Preparedness in Dangerous Weather

This is the season of potential serious weather incidents, and while we can never predict how the weather will affect us, we can be prepared for when it strikes!  Make an Emergency Kit and gather items you will need in an emergency:

  • Make an evacuation plan, including pets, transportation routes and destinations.
  • 3-Day supply of water for drinking AND sanitation
  • 3-Day supply of ready-to-eat food, canned food and juices, and a can opener. *Remember your pet’s food too!
  • First aid kit with non-prescription drugs such as pain reliever
  • Prescription medications, denture needs, supplies for glasses, hearing aids
  • Personal hygiene items, wet wipes, trash bags for sanitation
  • Complete set of extra clothes in a dry container
  • Important documents i.e.- copies of insurance policies, ID’s, bank info, and emergency contacts in a waterproof container.
  • Battery or hand crank radio & extra batteries
  • Flashlight & extra batteries
  • Disinfectant & bleach
  • Stay informed! Listen to a NOAA weather radio or check local forecasts and news reports regularly.

Orange Beach Fire/Rescue also encourages the community to sign-up through Community Connect.  This is a secure database that helps Fire & Rescue better help and serve during emergencies. Sign up at https://www.communityconnect.io/
